Center for Rural Studies

The Center for Rural Studies is a nonprofit, fee-for-service research organization that addresses social, economic, and resource-based problems of rural people and communities. Based in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at the University of Vermont, the Center provides consulting, research, and program evaluation services in Vermont, the United States, and abroad.

Cobb Institute Learning Lab

The Cobb Institute Learning Lab is transforming education for ecological civilization. They believe that personal growth and wisdom are more important for students than learning to do research, and that studying how to create an ecological civilization is more important than engaging in value-free education. They seek to find ways to involve local educational institutions individually and collectively in serious discussion of their responsibility to students, humanity, and the entire world.

CommunityViz provides GIS-based analysis and real-world 3D modeling that allow people to envision land use alternatives and understand their potential impacts, explore options and share possibilities, examine scenarios from all angles — environmental, economic, and social — and feel confident in their decisions.

Eco-Institute at Pickards Mountain

The Eco-Institute at Pickards Mountain is an earth sanctuary and learning community dedicated to healing the human-earth relationship. We offer what we practice: skills for community resilience, spiritual ecology, and permaculture.

EcoGather

EcoGather is a collaborative learning network dedicated to the vitality of ecosystems, communities, and economies.

It brings remote learning to life by grounding its offerings in community-centered design, place-based pedagogy, and experiential application.

EcoGather makes the knowledge necessary for life to thrive accessible, affordable, and adaptable through guided lessons, interactive discussions, and intensive, community-based projects. It prepares learners at all stages of life to undertake or deepen active changemaking and caretaking work.

EcoGather also hosts a welcoming virtual space for learners to experience pluralistic exchange and resonant connections across geographies, cultures, identities, worldviews, and lifeways. We gather to learn from and transform our relationships with each other, the rest of the natural world, and life itself.

Emerging Ecology

Emerging Ecology programs foster an individual and collective worldview that enhances opportunities for resolving current economic, social and environmental issues. By integrating contemporary ecological understandings, in-depth personal experiences and effective societal practices, Emerging Ecology programs enhance opportunities for creativity and effectiveness in the 21st Century context.

Food Project

The Food Project is a launching pad for new ideas about youth and adults partnering to create social change through sustainable agriculture. Their goal is sustainable, local food systems that bridge race, class, age, and more to ensure food security for all.

Leopold Education Project

The Leopold Education Project is an innovative, interdisciplinary educational program based on the classic writings of the renowned conservationist, Aldo Leopold. The L.E.P. was developed to teach educators about humanity’s ties to the natural world, and to provide leadership in the effort to conserve and protect the earth’s natural resources.

Navdanya

Navdanya is programme on sustainable living that provides education on Earth Democracy at Bija Vidyapeeth on Navdanya Agrobiodiversity Conservation and Ecological Farm. Navdanya informs policy makers as well as the public about the dangers of genetically modified organisms, and provides an authentic and diverse picture on the status of GM crops and food in various countries.

Oberlin Project

The Oberlin Project is a joint effort of the City of Oberlin, Oberlin College, and private and institutional partners to improve the resilience, prosperity, and sustainability of our community.

The Oberlin Project’s aim is to revitalize the local economy, eliminate carbon emissions, restore local agriculture, food supply and forestry, and create a new, sustainable base for economic and community development.

Permaculture Institute

The Permaculture Institute is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the promotion of Permaculture by offering Permaculture Design Courses, Teacher Training Retreats, and The Peoples Diploma. Founded in 1997 by Scott Pittman and Bill Mollison, the Institute’s work uses education and demonstration to accomplish their mission of training the next environmental and social change makers in the life-enhancing practice of Permaculture Design.

PLACE Program

The PLACE (Place-based Landscape Analysis & Community Engagement) Program provides local Vermont residents with a forum for exploring and understanding the natural and cultural history of their town landscape. Working directly with local organizations, PLACE staff members develop presentations, field trips, workshops, and visioning forums designed to celebrate and honor a town’s cultural heritage and ecological potential.

Post Carbon Institute

The mission of the Post Carbon Institute is to lead the transition to a more resilient, equitable, and sustainable world by providing individuals and communities with the resources needed to understand and respond to the interrelated ecological, economic, energy, and equity crises of the 21st century.

Woman Eco Artists Dialog

Woman Eco Artists Dialog is a pioneering network of feminist ecoartists, educators, curators, and writers working toward the goal of a just and healthy world. We focus on women’s unique perspective in ecological and social justice art. WEAD maintains an invaluable website that serves as a virtual gallery of ecoartists work, connects artists and curators with exhibition opportunities, and educates and enlightens through its ground breaking WEAD Magazine.
